RELIGIOUS AND BLESSED FIGURES TOUR
The tour is directed to anyone wishing to go back in time to immerse themselves in the sacred silence of churches and monasteries, to discover the hidden treasures within them and learn about the life of the religious figures that made our town famous.
Visit to the “Santuario della Madonna della Visitazione” (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Visitation) in Casale (located 4km from Santarcangelos town centre), managed by the Passionist Fathers. The order spread also thanks to Pope Clement XIV, from Santarcangelo.
The body of the Blessed Pius Campidelli is preserved within the sanctuary and you’ll also find the famous painter from Santarcangelo Giovanni Battista Galliadi’s Crucifix..
The main square, Piazza Ganganelli, owes it’s name to the illustrious Lorenzo Ganganelli who became Pope in 1769 under the name of Clement XIV; the Triumphal Arch was also dedicated to him.
The Chiesa Collegiata was designed by the architect Buonamici from Rimini, within the church are contained numerous works of art.
The 19th century chapel hosts’ the relics of Blessed Simone Balacchi and you’ll also be able to admire beautiful alfrescos dedicated the Domenican Brother.
Located above the entrance you’ll find an ark in red marble from Verona, which once contained the body of Blessed Chiara of Rimini.
The church also has a plaque in memory of Father Pascquale Tosi, the first missionary explorer to go to Alaska.
The Musas (Museum of History and Archeology) exhibits paintings and vestments dedicated to Pope Clement XIV.
The 18th century church “Chiesa delle SS. Caterina e Barbara”, designed by the architectFrancesco Galli Bibiena, is located in Piazza delle Monache.
The building preserves works of remarkable artistic merit that include incredibly fine stuccos by Antonio Trentanove and two altarpieces by Giovan Battista Costa and the school of Costa.
There is also a plaque which marks the chapel where the body and relics of Sister Angela Molari lay. She is the founder of the “Figlie dell’Immacolata Concezione” of the Order of the Poor Clares.
It is also possible to stay over night in one of the convents ancient nun cells.
