RAFFAELLO BALDINI (30)

Raffaello Baldini was born in Santarcangelo di Romagna in 1924.

During the post-war period, some young poets (Guerra, Pedretti, Fucci) all from Santarcangelo, gathered at “Caffè Trieste”, the bar owned by Baldini’s parents, they, ironically, had renamed the “Circle of Judgement”.

After graduating in philosophy from the University of Bologna, Baldini taught for some years.

In 1955 he moved to Milan to work as a writer, and in 1962 he was a journalist for the magazine, Panorama.

He officially debuted as poet in 1976 with a collection of poetry in dialect such as, É solitèri, “The loner”, followed by La nàiva, “The snow”, and Furistír, “Foreigners” which won the Viareggio Prize.

He also wrote for theatre. His monologues include, Zitti tutti!, Carta canta and La fondazione. He died in Milan in 2005.
